What Causes Pain And Stiffness In The Leg Muscles After Walking?

Hi, I ve been walking 5 miles on a treadmill everyday for about 2 months. My time has been getting shorter as my strides lengthen, but I m still experiencing soreness and stiffness after. I feel good as I m walking. Should that be? I would think my muscles would have acclimated to my exercise.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
Soreness and stiffness in the muscles post exercise is quite common. This can happen even after doing regular exercise for over a long period. Because excess muscle contractions lead to accumulation of certain substances in the muscles (P substances). After exercise one should do slow stretching exrcise to relieve muscle tension. A cool down exercise of 5 to 10 minutes is always helpful. Thanks.
