What Causes Pain And Stiffness In The Neck In A Child?
My four year old woke up neck pain and her pain. He also couldn t move his neck, a stiff neck. To day is his second day with it appears to be stiff. But it feels better after I give him one and a half children motoring. What else should I do and how many days should it go on?
The stiffness is likely related to spasm of muscles in the neck which can happen during sleep and children are clumsy so as it hurts on movement and the movements are restricted because of spasm of the muscles. It should go away on its own with proper rest in a week or two.
Observe him for a day or two as he has no other symptoms apart from pain and stiffness. If his condition is not improving and additional symptoms appear then I would suggest you to take him to the doctor and get him examined. Follow your doctor’s advice on further management. If required the doctor will prescribe appropriate medicine depending on the cause for the pain and stiffness which will help in relieving the symptoms.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
