What Causes Pain And Stiffness On The Right Side Of The Neck?

I have had increasingly painful stiffness on the right side of my neck for three days. I ve referred to this as a crick in my neck in the past, but this is more painful. I ve tried Aleve, heating pad, ice pack, and hot showers. Last year I had knee replacement and had some hydrocodone and oxycodone pills left. The hydrocodone does give some relief. My husband has gently massaged the area which did give slight relief. Should I seek medical attention or is this something that should work itself out?

Hello,

Most probably it will be cervical spondylitis. As first-line management, you can take analgesics like Paracetamol or Aceclofenac for pain relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult an orthopaedician and plan for an MRI neck to make a diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
