What Causes Pain And Swelling Around The Ankle?

I sprained my ankle 25 years ago did not get any treatment. April 6th 2017 went for a long walk barefoot on the beach in FL my ankle hurt and swelled up right under the ankle bone. it keeps flaring up even after elevating and icing it. The swelling is the size of a sort of flattened golf ball.

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM
I have gone through your query. You should get a X Ray of ankle joint to rule out bony injuries. If that is clear then it can be ligament injuries or strain. If it is severe then surgical repair will be needed. You can apply an ankle brace or crepe bandage. Keep the ankle elevated while sitting. While sleeping also keep the affected foot elevated by a pillow.
Thanks.
