Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have tri compartmental arthritis and a frayed meniscus, and am experiencing swelling behind my knee, with a degree of pain. I do have a Bakers cyst as well. I get some relief when I stretch it, is this wise? I am also icing it. But I play tennis and want to continue to do so, when it s not in an acute phase.
Fluid formed as result of osteoarthritis goes behind the knee and forms fluid filled cyst which we call baker cyst. Diagnosis needs to be confirmed by Ultrasound of the popliteal fossa.
X-ray of knee anteroposterior and lateral views confirms osteoarthritis. You should avoid squatting and crossed leg sitting. You can play tennis if pain permits.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Jayesh Vaza, Orthopaedic Surgeon
