What Causes Pain And Swelling In Ankle While Walking?

I had an avulsion fracrure of foot (very minor according to the doctor) 3 weeks ago. My foot was put in a cast for a week and now continuing with crepe bandage.Doctor adviced me to take support of a stick from the very start for 3 weeks.I used walker till now as extreme caution and doctor asked me strictly to use stick now and said swelling will take place when i will walk This was my first day with the stick and swelling somewhat increased (it deceased to a minimum level when i used Walker).There is pain in the heel but doctor said its not worrisome.I used ankle splint while walking too as a caution. Please recommend what should a do.Doctor even said there is no need of x-ray again and no medicines.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain and swelling in ankle while walking . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like peripheral neuropathy , hypertension , vitamin B12 deficiency , kidney disease or venous insufficiency . There can be other problems also like compressed gout and arthritis . Keep your legs in hot water tub with Epsom salt for 15 minutes daily , lower your salt consumption and keep your legs elevated while lying down .I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan or x-ray along with blood test and nerve conduction test . Doctor may also refer you to nephrologist ,who may prescribe frusemide , betablockers along with anti inflammatory . Doctor may also refer you to nephrologist.
