Hello,
What you have experienced is related to "dead butt syndrome" or gluteal
amnesia. In other words, after sitting for long time, the
gluteal muscles won't work normally as they "forget" their main function. The swelling of your butts can be reduced by following the RICE protocol:
* rest - stay off your feet as much as you can
* ice - apply ice packs on the butts several times during the day
* compression - which is made by doctor's advice
* elevation of the legs during the day
Try to avoid sitting or standing during the recovery time. If still no improvement, you might require
massage therapy. However, ask your doctor to run
MRI or X-ray of the hip and back area to rule out any other pathology.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
