What Causes Pain And Swelling In Knee After An Injury?

I am having trouble with my knee. Yesterday I had to make a pretty big jump off the boat to catch the stern and I now have pain on the inside front of my knee as well as pain in the back of my knee. It is slightly swollen and I am having trouble walking stairs although walking on the flat is not too painful. It seemed to get worse over night. I am trying to decide how to proceed.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Painful and swollen knee, history of jump suggests that you might have injured your knee ligaments, ligament tear. Excessive pull or contraction may have caused this to you.
Immobilize your knee with elastic crep bandage and take complete rest. Do not take pressure or use your injured leg. Secondly take some anti-inflammatory and pain killer medication like Aceclofenac and Paracetamol Combination.
Put crushed ice in a plastic bag and cover it with cloth and apply to your knee for 10-15 minutes for 3-4 times a day. This will reduce swelling and pain. If the injury is 2-3 days old, then give hot water fomentation for 10-15 minutes for 3-4 times a day.
Hope this will help you.
