Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain And Swelling In Salivary Glands On Left Side?
My salivary glands swells frequently on my left side. I went to my doctor and he treated it when it grew enormously and became painful. Should I be concern? I am 60 years old. It swells from time to time and become sore. It only got large this one time.
As per your query you have salivary gland swelling even after the treatment . There can be many reasons for swelling in salivary glands like stone in gland or infection . A salivary gland infection occurs when a bacterial or viral infection affects the salivary gland or duct. The infection can result from reduced saliva flow or the blockage or inflammation of a salivary duct. The condition is called sialadenitis. I would suggest you to consult oral surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan or ultrasound . Doctor may prescribe anti bacterial or anti viral depending up on the diagnosis . Doctor may olso perform aspiration with finr needle . For now do warm saline rinses , drink plenty of water , suck on suger free lemon candy and give warm compresses .
Hope your concern has been resolved. get well soon. Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
As per your complain it seems that there is either infection in your salivary gland or there is stone formation in the duct of the gland leading swelling in the salivary gland..
You should not get treated by hit and trial method and get proper investigations done like CT SCAN of the gland and blood test for ruling out infection and type of bacteria or virus that is causing infection and treatment will be planned depending upon the specific organisms..
In case if there is duct blockage which can also occur secondary to infection in the gland removal of the stones either manually or surgically depending upon the position of the stones can help..
Consult an oral physician and get evaluated and if required he can do necessary investigations and refer you to appropriate specialist..
Hope this information helps..
