What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Ankle And Foot?

Yesterday my left foot started to hurt like I sprained the top of my foot. Last night it swelled up. The swelling has gone down, but it hurts like hell whether I stand on it or not. Now the veins from my left ankle are popping out about 3 inches on the left side of my foot. What might cause this? I haven t twisted my foot or anything.

Hi! pain in any indicated any of the following:

1. inflammation

2. pressure on the nerves

3. cellular injury/death or ischemia

Swelling indicates:

1. fluid or pus collection or edema

2. venous obstruction or lymph flow obstruction

Prominent veins indicate:

1. increased blood flow like infection or

2. obstruction / constriction in the distal region

Therefore, putting all points together, I would like to conclude in your case that you got acute arthritis, synovitis or king of acute infection which is very common!

Regards!
