What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Ankle?

I have an ankle that swells up and is terrible painful...we have treated it for gout, but finally gave upl noe the doctor has ordered lyrica 25 mg; am skeptical as I believe it is only a painkiller and I want somethig that will take care of the swelling. not just a painkiller. what would you recommend? I have a suspicion that my kidneys are ivolved as I have to urinate every 1 and 1/5 hours all night long...it has been months since I have had an all night sleep. I am 98 years old and in good health...blood pressure , weight, etc. please give me a straight answer about Lyrica.I am very careful to not fall down, even lose my balance occasionally.A few months ago I moved and my nnew doctor, not MD byt a orthopedic doctor. my daughters doc. He examined me and said that I was the healthiest 90 something patient he had ever seen in all of his years of practice, so I was in good shape,,In the beginning I wa s tested for gout and showed a slight rise in uric acid so for about 6 months I was on colcrice gout med, Please help if you can. It is great that you are so very healthy and relatively disease free. Due to age, some tissue and lower limb vessel changes can take place leading to foot and leg swelling when ambulant. It usually is completely resolved in the morning. You possibly could be having benign hypertrophy prostrate, and this could be reason of frequent micturation. Doctor surely must have investigated for Diabetes, Renal dysfunction, Liver function, cardiac status and found all these as normal. You may please stop Cap Lyrica. The best method of preventing the foot and leg swelling is by using grade 2 compression stockings. You may please wear them in the morning, from toes to mid-thigh, and wear it all day long and remove it at night before sleeping. This will definitely prevent swelling of the feet and ankles you are having.
