What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Arm After Receiving Pneumonia Vaccination?
I have a patient who just received a 2nd pneumonia vaccine at her doctor's office. Her arm is red about the size of a 6x6 gauze pad. She rec'd. vaccine at 9am, it is now 2:22pm. She says she cannot lift or move her arm without severe pain. The area is red, too and swollen, hot to touch. We are aware of side effects but the pain she is expressing seems above normal side effects. She called administering MD and he said let it work it self out. Is this best advice?
As a physician I would like to telly you that there could be some local side effects of the vaccine. They could be manged by cold compression and some Paracetamol for pain if necessary. Do not put pressure on injection site. I would also like to recommend that if the swelling does not come down after 12 hours, she must visit a MD Physician as soon as possible.
Hope this will help you. Feel free to ask any further question. Have a nice day.
Regards, Dr. Abhijeet
