Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have pain and swelling near the edge of my big toe. The pain is mostly located near the bottom right corner of the nail, near the base. There doesn t seem to be any pus buildup under the skin. It is just red and swollen. I woke up in the middle of the night, two nights ago, because of a throbbing pain in the toe. I ve been soaking it in warm water the last two days and the pain has gone away mostly unless I put pressure on it. Is there anything else I can do?
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
You should apply ice, take nonsteroid painkillers and rest for a start. If there is no improvement you should take amoxicilin 2x1g daily. Also, if you are diabetic you should check blood sugar and urates and have antibiotics as well since this may be beginning of diabetic foot. You can soak it in salty warm water as well and put some mild steroid cream.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health. DR. Ivan Rommstein
