What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Ear After Scratching It?

I scratched my ear with one of those plastic ear cleaners they sell. No blood but pain. Went to doctor who noticed some swelling and crust. He treated me for infection but after 5 days still some pain although no signs of infection. He said to stop the drops but am worried.

Hello,

While scratching there must be a local injury which has caused infection. Any infection in the ear takes a longer time to get cured and pain persists for a longer time as ear has a poor blood supply. Don't worry, it will get healed however will take time.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you all the best.

Regards,
Dr. Loveleen Sharma, General & Family Physician
