Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my right foot is very swollen and hurts over the second tarsal but my right ankle and calf are also swelling. I always wear knee support hose but they are now uncomfortable would a stress fx of the tarsal bone make the ankle and calf swell also thank you
Since there is a pointed pain in the 2nd tarsal surely there is a chance of fracture or even any other sort of injury that needs to be invested thoroughly. Any condition can cause swelling and the swelling can easily travel up and down the planes which easily open up. Hence I would advise you the following: Consult an Orthopedic Surgeon for clinical evaluation and go for the asked investigations. These may be X-rays or CT or MRI of the affected area. So not use knee support as it can increase the swelling and pain. Till then: Elevate the affected limb above heart level in laying down position. Take an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen if it suits you.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
