What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Groin And Ankles?
My husband went to the ER Tuesday and was admitted for blood clots in his left thigh. This is the second time he has had a blood clot. VQ scan was low. He had two injections of lovenox (one Tuesday and one Wednesday) and one dose of Eliquis Wednesday about 1:30. He was released from hospital and told to take another dose of Eliquis Wednesday before bed. Woke up this morning with pain in groin area, ankle hurting and swollen and still pain in thigh. He is diabetic taking metformin and it is under control. He also has HBP again controlled with meds. Should we be concerned with the groin pain and ankle swollen?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
* As there is history of recent deep vein thrombosis and on treatment including blood thinners, the groin pain with ankle swelling should not be neglected at all. As this may indicate re clot formation or advancement of previous clot into further tributaries.
* I recommend to immediately contact your doc`s office and do accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
