What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Hand After IV Administration?
Hi, 10 days ago I had an IV put into my left hand vein for treatment of a tummy bug in India. Since, my whole hand and wrist has been achey and heavy intermittently, it was really bruised up until now, the swelling seems to have gone, but the ache remains. I called the dr, who recommended I get Thromboprob ointment (white cream) but no instruction on how to apply, so I have just applied sparingly to the vein on my hand but the ointment caused a stinging sensation adn turned my skin red like a reaction. Is this normal? and should I persevere? I am not indian btw I am here travelling for a year from New Zealand.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Thrombophob is helpful after IV administration. This is because, sometimes due to IV, swelling and bruising is created. Therefore, if redness occurs on the skin, it is normal. Thrombophob sometimes creates redness but it will cure your problem in the long run. It will take a little time but it will get completely cured.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
