What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Hand When Diagnosed With Gout?
A friend of mine has been experiecing pain and swelling in various parts of his upper body. This is something that happens and then goes away. The pain and swelling seems to travel from one spot to another. Most rtecently he experienced pain and swelling in his hand ... this then moved on to his elbow. He also is feeling upper back pain. He has had this type of problem for many years. The doctor has had him do blood tests ... no other tests as yet. The doctor s diagnosis is gout. However the patient feels there may be mopre to it than just gout. Are there any other tests that may be helpful; in this case? Do you have any suggestions for him? He is a young man in his late 30s and is looking for help. Thank you
First of all, I would like to mention that there are different kinds of blood tests a doctor suggests with regard to the clinical signs and symptoms a patient has. When a patient comes to my clinic with pain and swelling in multiple joints over a long period of time with no obvious reason than I usually suggest him to undergo blood tests for his autoimmune profile and if necessary, some x-rays or MRI depending on the location of the joint involved.
Secondly, there are many reasons that cause painful and swollen joints and one of the reasons is gout that your friend has been diagnosed with already. So for that, I would like to suggest you consult a rheumatologist in person with all previous investigations that have been done. Your friend might be adviced to do some additional tests if required by the rheumatologist. After all necessary steps, a final diagnosis can be made and appropriate treatment can be started which will provide relief to your friend.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
