What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Hand?

the top of my right hand has a mound on it: probably fluid. I ve had it for 6-8 weeks now. if you push on it, no pain. it hurts when you flex my wrist, with the most pain when I move my wrist isn a manner similar to a hand-wave at the wrist . I have taken OTC anti-inflams and also a prescription one. no real change. also put ice on it a half dozen times, with a little relief. suggestions? I am 64 year old male. fairly active person.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

There is cellulitis at the wrist, so there will be no cure with ice or OTC medicines. Require definite help of surgeon consultation in terms of arm sling support, antibiotics to resolve the cellulitis at earliest to prevent secondary bacterial infection and need of surgery to drain the fluid collection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel,
