What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Heel?

I recently began having pain and swelling in my heel, actually on the backside of my heel. It hurts when climbing stairs and first steps after being in bed all night and after sitting for a while, it also hurts when I put my shoe on. I ve researched this online and am not sure if it might be plantar fasitis. It could also be tendonitis. I haven t been to my pcp and thought that I might find out something here.

Hello Dear. Heel pain is most often the result of overuse. However, it may be caused by an injury.

Your heel may become tender or swollen from:

1. Shoes with poor support or shock absorption
2. Running on hard surfaces, like concrete
3. Running too often
4. Tightness in your calf muscle or the Achilles tendon
5. Sudden inward or outward turning of your heel
6. Landing hard or awkwardly on the heel

Conditions that may cause heel pain include:

1. Swelling and pain in the Achilles tendon
2. Swelling of the fluid-filled sac (bursa) at the back of the heel bone under the Achilles tendon (bursitis)
3. Bone spurs in the heel
4. Swelling of the thick band of tissue on the bottom of your foot (plantar fasciitis)
5. Fracture of the heel bone that is related to landing very hard on your heel from a fall (calcaneus fracture)

You can try few of the home remedies

The following steps may help relieve your heel pain:

1. Use crutches to take weight off your feet.
2. Rest as much as possible for at least a week.
3. Apply ice to the painful area. Do this at least twice a day for 10 to 15 minutes. Ice more often in the first couple of days.
4. Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for the pain.
5. Wear well-fitted shoes.
6. Use a heel cup, felt pads in the heel area, or shoe insert.
7. Wear night splints.

You can also try this alternate method- put a few spoon of crystal salt in a bucket of warm water and keep your feet for 15 mins. You can do this twice a day for few days.

With all the above measures you may find relief. if not then you will have to contact your doctor who may take an xray to find out what is the cause.

Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you.
All the best
With warm regards
