What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Index Finger After An Injury?

My husband cut his index finger approximately two weeks ago using a kitchen knife. It was a pretty deep but he did not go to the doctor. He did go in this past week for a tetnus shot and the nurse said it looked ok. The cut is on his prominent hand. He did go fishing today and now he is having throbbing pain an swelling. Is this something we should be concerned with?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The cut would have caused minor damage to the soft tissue under the skin. It can take a few weeks (in some cases up to 6), for these areas to heal completely.

It does not mean that he can't use the hand but would have to be careful not to over use it.
He can use an anti inflammatory pain medication to help with his current discomfort.

I hope this helps
