General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

A tender, swollen, painful joint requires urgent medical attention to rule out possible septic arthritis which can damage the joint in course of few days. I suggest you to visit the emergency room at the earliest. The swollen joint needs aspiration urgently.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ayesha Shareef, General & Family Physician
