What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Knuckles?

My knuckle closest to my nail on my middle finger, right hand has been swollen and extremely sore for over 2 weeks now. I can barely bend it. I had it x-rayed but it is not broken. I have absolutely no memory of ever doing anything to hurt it. There is a knot that goes across the top of the knuckle.

Hello,

Maybe, this is an arthritic pain. There is an infection of the joint you are mentioning, and inflammatory mediators would have been produced to cause you pains.

If swellings and redness are there, then kindly take any anti-inflammatory medications like paracetamol, Ibuprofen etcetera which helps in subsiding the mediators and control the infection. If it is too much pain, any other painkiller can be supplemented for three days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
