What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Left Leg?

Hello I have had pain in my left leg muscle since Easter weekend. When I rub my hand over that are I can feel swelling. I contacted my doctor and she indicated it sounded like a pulled or strained muscle. She called in a prescription of pain meds and a muscle relaxer. This was over a week ago and I cannot raise my leg hardly to walk. My question should this have healed by now or should I be more concerned?
