Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My right ring finger is extremely painful, throbbing and increasingly red, swollen and numb and I cannot sleep. There s no open wound, but there could be an entry point for some bite where the nail meets skin. I was cutting limbs today but don t remember any bite. I also went swimming in a sea bay and perhaps got infected by oyster shells scraping across my finger. It started to come on hours later, after dinner. I iced it, put antibiotic cream on the area, without relief. Should I be concerned?
Hi, I have read your question and hope that by now you would have had some relief with the finger pain. Considering the tiny cut you had and then irritation post your visit to the sea could indeed relate to crustacean infections; although, the pain and irritation could simply be due to continuous exposure to the salt water. I would suggest you to take OTC pain medication like Ibufrofen to control your pain bouts, as needed. (Considering you do not have any other serious pathologies), along with the antibiotic ointment.
If the pain still persists, I would insist you to visit your personal doctor as your symptoms closely associated with Paranochyia.
Hope I have answered your question, for any further question we will be happy to help you. If you do not have clarifications, you can end the discussion and rate the answer. Wish you a quick recovery.
