What Causes Pain And Swelling On Right Chest Area After A Broken Rib?
I think I send my info before but here it is again. I feel two weeks ago hitting my right side on the edge of a bathtub from high up. I fractured my 10th rib and bruised my side from bottom of bra strap to where I broke the rib. My question is I have been recovering and today I feel more pain and swelling right at bottom of bra strap. Very sensitive to touch and feels swollen and strained when moving around. Why and What is this?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
The fractured rib needs to be immobilized to facilitate healing process. If this is not done the broken segments move and cause inflammation at the fracture site all you have is this. You need to consult an orthopedic surgeon, get X-ray. Get medication to treat the inflammation and get the fracture fixed. Over the counter pain pills can give temporary relief. Do not massage, foment unless advised.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
