What Causes Pain And Swelling On The Tongue?

a couple of days ago, I woke up with a very sore and somewhat swollen tongue. I've determined there is a round knot about the size of a small grape inside my tongue on one side. I've had problems with a sore tongue for a few years and my tongue is geographical in texture. What kind of doctor should ask for a referral?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It looks like you have inflammation of tongue that can occur due to a number of causes like deficiency of iron or Vitamin B 12, side effects of medication, dry mouth, stress, Sjogren's syndrome etc..
A knot can be due to swollen papillae..

Soy suggestion to you is to consult an Oral Physician and get a thorough examination done..

For now gargle with specialised mouthwash like Magic mouthwash and suck ice pops..
Take anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen..
Take Vitamin B complex supplement daily..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
