Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 53 years old. The past couple of days my breast have been very tender. I went today for my yearly mammogram and it was very painful due to tenderness. Is this normal- I have not experienced this since having children. I have a complete hysterectomy 4 years ago.
Are you on some oral contraceptives pills. This is the main reason of soreness and tenderness of breasts. Costochondritis can also be a reason. It is a type of arthritis that occurs where the ribs and breastbone connect. While this condition is not related to the breast, the burning pain caused by it can be confused with actual breast pain. This form of arthritis is seen in older adults and people with poor posture. A poorly fitted bra. Breast pain can be caused by an improperly fitted bra. At times, bras are worn too tight or loose, leaving the breasts improperly supported. Lack of proper support can lead to breast pain.
I hope you are helped. If still you have any thing to ask then feel free to write me back
Thanks Dr. Tripat Mehta
