What Causes Pain And Throbbing Sensation In The Foot Post An Accident?

Dropped a full wine bottle from 4 feet high onto foot between 1st & 2nd toe soft tissue area. No sleep for 2 1/2 weeks due to continuous throbbing. Put myself in air cast a week ago. Friday will will 4 weeks since injury occurred. Painful to touch, still throbs after taking off air cast & while sleeping, sometimes I feel heat on the bottom of my foot. To complicate matters I broke 1st toe 13 years ago playing soccer due to full contact blow from a player twice my size when we connected with the ball. It s been fusing all these years. Can walk on it without cast. Can balance on balls of feet. X-rays show no fracture. My ortho back surgeon said I may have traumatic Morton s neuroma...any thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain & throbbing sensation after an injury is commonly due to broken foot but may occur due to ligament tear or injury. It can occur due to nerve damage.

In rest, the pain & discomfort is reduced & gets increased due to the increase in the activities.

You are suggested to stay relaxed, do not strain unnecessarily, avoid activities that put pressure on the foot, do not massage the foot.

Get treated for Mortons neuroma, neglect will lead to worsening of the symptoms or cause permanent nerve damage.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
