Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had an echo gram that revealed an enlarged heart. Don't know the cause yet. Cardiologist said pain and tightness in chest is due to acid reflux, I never had indigestion. He prescribed omeprazole 20 mg daily. I also have high blood pressure and am overweight. No one has prescribed blood pressure meds to reduce my pressure. Just was told to lose weight, just recently started gaining extra lbs. without any change in diet. Iam about 50 lbs over weight. I'äm 49 yrs old woman. Should I get another opinion?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Sandhya's Response
Hello!
As you have mentioned, I see that you are overweight and in the middle age group. Keeping in mind that you are in the overweight to obese category and also since you have had high blood pressure readings, it is important to exclude other causes of enlarged heart. 2D echo, treadmill test and angiogram would be needed. Your blood pressure levels also have to be monitored regularly and if more than 3 readings are high or if the diastolic reading is more than 100, you would need to be started on anti-hypertensives. Please do consider a visit to the cardiologist for further evaluation and management.
