What Causes Pain Around A Surgical Incision Upon Sneezing?

I m 4 weeks post-op (open, w/ a 2.5 inch vertical incision from below the navel) and moving just fine. However when I sneeze, there are times when I would feel intense and sudden pain on an area an inch from my navel. The pain would subside but not as quick as usual. It would sometimes linger for a minute or two. Externally, everything looks fine. I feel no pain on the incision site itself. Palpating also doesn t cause any great pain. Is this pain normal or should I be concerned?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is just a postoperative pain and is quite common.

As of now you can use analgesics/anti inflammatory combination like aceclofenac/serratiopeptidase for symptomatic relief.

Avoid weight lifting and coughing as it can cause scar dehiscence.

If pain is severe, you can consult a general surgeon and plan for an ultrasound scan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
