Thanks for your service My wife has been complaining all day of pain around the back of her neck and I have inspected this area and found a patchy rash all around the rear of the neck area and shoulder. She has been feeling unwell all day . If this is shingles do we need to have professional advice immediately or can it wait until tomorrow ? Your reply appdreciated. Errol
hi, thank you for putting up your query on HCM. as per your history, it may be shingles if there are fluid filled lesions with redness d pain, also it may be allergic contact dermatitis. -- it can be confirmed only by seeing the lesions. -- shingles can be treated with a dose of tab acyclovir for 5 days, started within 72 hrs. -- also, she may need a course of antibiotics preferably of cephalosporin group for 5 days. -- she may take tab levocetrizine twice a day for itching and tab ibuprofen for pain. -- topical steroids should be started only after consulting a dermatologist. you may consult a dermatologist nearby. wishing her good health. thank you
