What Causes Pain Around The Ankle?

I I woke this morning with pain on outside of my foot near sole just forward of the ankle, it s bad enough to make me limp. But I ve done nothing to it. I do walk a lot with my dogs and walked 6 miles Saturday and a couple miles Monday but was fine then. There is a touch of inflammation but I haven t hurt myself so I don t understand. I did sprain the ankle on same leg quite bad but that was couple of years ago and I recovered.

In my opinion, you should get an X-ray ankle to rule out hairline fracture due to trivial trauma. There may be a sprain though.
