Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
So, I am currently 3 months post-op from a lap appendectomy. Since then, I began feeling pain in the same area. The surgeon told me it was normal. About 6 weeks ago the pain began to get worse and it was migrating to my back, and i would feel pain in my right shoulder. I went to my pcp, who came to the same conclusion I did, that my gallbladder could be my issue. I had an ultrasound done, but it revealed nothing but Murphy s sign when they scanned my gallbladder. He has me doing a HIDA test tomorrow but I am not sure what exactly they are looking for now and he is conveniently on vacation, could you help me understand what they are expecting to find in this test?
A positive murphy's sign indicates some kind of inflammation of the gall bladder. A HIDA test (hepatobiliary scan) is being done to look into any pathology in gallbladder, bile duct or liver that can be contributing to your symptoms. I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic. I hope the HIDA test throws more light on the reason behind your symptoms. Take care.
