Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had an injury in my chest for about a year. I believe I originally injured in doing push-ups or pull-ups. I let it heal for a few months, it felt better, and then I believe it was re-injured doing push-ups. It is located near the inner pectoral muscles, close to center of my chest. When I sneeze, I can feel the pain for a moment.
As you stated, the area was likely re-injured. Treatment would involve:
(1) rest and protection of the involved areas, avoid any movements that would worsen the pain. This may need to be done for at least 2 weeks, in some cases, up to 6
(2) warm compress to the area 2 to 3 times a day for 15 to 20 mins
(3) anti inflammatory pain medication such as Naproxen, Ibuprofen, Voltaren
Even if the pain is only with a small amount of movements, using the anti inflammatory pain killer would help reduce the inflammation in the involved muscles so that the symptoms can resolve.
I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Michelle Gibson James
