What Causes Pain Around The Kidney Area?

i had a really bad kidney infection before which put me in the hospital for 9 days about 10 months ago and for the past couple months i been feeling the same sharp pains in my kidney along with the extreme urgency to have to go pee almost as soon as i feel it hits my bladder... now im not sure if the infection is back because last time it took months to actually make me extremely sick so i dont know if i should get checked or does my kidney just have permanent damage from the last infection?
