Hi, I have been having this bad painful ache in the back of my head. To best describe the area where it hurts...from looking at a graph of the back of the head, I can pinpoint the pain on both sides of the upper neck area in the Splenisu Capitis Muscle. The pain is tender to touch and been hurting for two days.
Pain in the neck is common complain of people doing sedentary computer related jobs or in people who do a lot of manual work. Take break between work & allow your body to relax from time to time. Maintain correct posture while sitting /standing. You can take Acetaminophen or Naproxen for relieve from pain. However, you are suggested to get clinically assessed by a GP, get Imaging tests done to detect factors causing you discomfort.
Medical factors causing such symptoms may be tension headache, migraine, degenerative disc diseases, cervical spondylosis, OA, spinal stenosis, neck injury, pinched nerve etc. Your treatment will depend n the pathology detected, neck pain when associated with numbness or loss of power in the arms or hand can be serious medical conditions. Get treated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
