Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain At The Base Of The Cervical Spine?
I have an occasional pain at the base of my cervical spine that feels like tension after I have been sitting at the computer for a number of hours. A symptom that occasionally accompanies that pain is arm weakness. It goes away after a brief moment, but I am concerned about a heart attack. I am quite active physically, work out on a fairly regular basis, am female and am 66 years of age.
Neck pain and arm weakness that is related to staying long in front of the computer and that is better with movement is very likely, not due to a heart problem.
A muscle spasm and nerve being pinched while getting out of the spine may be the reason. It is related to your body's position while working on the computer.
You may need to read about computer hygiene, which addresses such issues and if you see no improvement while you apply these rules then you would benefit from seeing a physiotherapist.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
