What Causes Pain Behind Eyes While Flying?

I was flying last week when upon decent of the plane i started getting an extreme pain behind my eye - it felt like a knife was trying to twist its way out of my head. The acute pain lasted about 25 minutes and when the pain landed I was left with a dull pain that is still there. I understand that this has somthing to do with the sinuses, however I am not sick, i don't feel stuffed up, my sinuses seem to be clear - and i have never had issues with it in the past... so why would this have affected me? Also is this a dangerous affliction...i know it sounds silly, but i really thought my head was going to explode at any moment, the pain was so intense i thought i was going to pass out - this coming from a mom that handled child birth with no pain meds...Thanks for your help.

Might be your IOT . is raised in this variation. so this pain is temporary, soon you will be acclimatised. There will be pressure variation in your ear drum. Slowly you will be accustomed to these variation.

Ophthalmologist Dr. Paras N Chaudhary's  Response
If the pain is extreme and behind the eyes then it might be because of irritation of the nerves related to the eyes, but if that is the case then did it affected your vision that has to be note down. Also there might be possibility that the vessels related to brain or near the eyes had been compressed due to some pathology which might have caused the acute pain. If the pain was severe better to consult a doctor get proper check up and treatment and avoid any complications in the future.
