The other day, I took a nap, lying on a couch with my leg stretched out, when I woke up and try to to take a walk, I felt a pain behind my knee. This happened Friday night around 6-6:30 pm. What causes it and is it health related, how do I ease the pain. I can not bend all the , this is my left knee.

Hi,

There is host of causes of acute knee pain; commonly osteoarthritis. Other causes include bursitis. You need to undergo examination of the affected knee. For relief of pain, one can apply superficial heat: hot packs, heating pads, or hot water bottles (moist heat is better). Be careful to avoid burns. Topical analgesic: ointments containing methyl salivates, capsaicin cream (counter irritants safe and have some effect), diclofenac gel or patch helps to relieve pain.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
