What Causes Pain Behind The Knees?

My right knee has been hurting me. It began behind the knee but yesterday when I got out of bed it popped and has been very painful ever since. I could not sleep last night. No swelling. Just extreme pain and I am single and must travel alone often for work. Help!

Hi,

There are various reasons for acute pain behind knee as
- osteoarthritis
- ligament spasm or strain, sprain
- developing Baker's cyst
- nerve compression
- others.

Primary relief with ice pack, heating pad and analgesic medicines; MRI of the knee is strongly recommended for the final diagnosis and further management guidelines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
