What Causes Pain Behind The Left Eye?

My mother is 84, and is in generally good health. She just awoke with severe pain behind her left eye. Only slight nausea, I administered 2 advil pills and gave her an ice pack. I will check with her in 30 minutes. She also had temporary numbness in her right hand (not her left hand). This went away immediately. She came and woke me up, so no apparent stroke symptoms. She seemed normal otherwise. She is worried that this could be an aneurism. She has absolutely no other symptoms (her mother lived to be 103!). She seems more scared than in severe pain .

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Most likely she is having TIA(embolic) with ophthalmic artery ischaemia.

Internal carotid artery lesion/transient occlusion on the left side is most likely as the ophthalmic artery arises from the internal carotid artery just below the circle of Willis. Consult a neurophysician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
