Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
A friend of mine is complaining of pain in the back of his legs, from the knee down, and says that it is painful to touch his legs in that area. He also is complaining of overall feeling sick & drained and said he has been losing weight for no apparent reason. I was thinking he may be developing shingles and was wondering if you could shed some light.......
Hello Pain behind legs ,i.e.,in calf associated with tenderness points towards deep vein thrombosis. DVT is blood clots getting formed in deep veins of leg. I recommend- -Visit to vascular surgeon/general surgeon.Investigations like colour doppler studies for peripheral blood circulation, blood coagulation studies, blood lipids will be required. You will be prescribed with anti coagulants for 3-6 months with regular monitoring and follow up.As he is also loosing weight,USG abdo suggested for any intra abdominal mass. -Compression stockings application.Sitting or sleeping with leg elevation.Local ice pack application for pain and swelling relief -Avoid standing for long time.Frequent flexion, extention and rotational movements at ankle and stretching exercises of calf muscles help. -Avoid alcohol, smoking.Avoid high saturated fat diet. -Report immediately if you get shortness of breath or chest pain Thanks
