Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my wife had breast cancer two years ago.....went through 4 months chemo and then a double mastectomy. she has been complaining of pain behind her right breast for about 3 months , we thought it was muscular but thought to be safe we should have a MRI done. Just got the results back and was told she has a suspicious lesion on her rib. They want yo do a CT scan tomorrow an a possible biopsy. her cancer was Triple negative HER2 NEGATIVE. wE WERE TOLD AFTER HER chemo and surgery that blood markers weren t necessary and that there were no proven flacks with that type cancer. bottom line, could the lesion be nothing?
Most causes of pain in the breast are benign and not serious. There are a number of harmless causes for breast pain and tenderness that may primarily be related to changes in hormone levels. These can include menstruation and premenstrual syndrome (PMS), mastitis, menopause and fibrocystic breast tissue which is most common.
Fibrocystic breasts are not necessarily linked to cancer, and the lumps are fluid-filled cysts rather than a mass of cells. However, it is advisable to do breast ultrasound and mammography just to be sure and start regular follow up of possible cysts.
In case of redness, fever and progressive pain this may indicate abscess and then it should be surgically drained or evacuated by a needle under control of ultrasound.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein,
