What Causes Pain Behind Tongue And Neck In Children?
My 12 year old son has come home from school with pain in the front of his throat. He said he had his head down on the desk and when he lifted his head up he got acute pain in the front of his neck. There is no swelling or bruising but he does have a lot of pain when he extends his neck and when I press just under his jaw.
Thanks for your query . The symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards condition known as sore throat . It is caused by both bacteria and virus . If the infection is due to virus then it will go away in 5- 10 days .
I would suggest you ask him to do warm saline rinses several times a day, take paracetamole for pain and swelling ans suck on lozengez to increase the saliva.
If symptom persist or get worse then consult ENT specialist (ear, nose, throat) for proper examination to rule ou the cause like strep throat ,tonsilitis or coxsackie .Doctor may order blood test or throat swab test . He/she may prescribe prescribe antibiotic course (amoxicillin) .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
