What Causes Pain Below Rib Cage With History Of Blood Clot?

My husband is having pain on his left upper side under the ribcage....and he said his back hurts some. He said it was worse after he ate. He had a blood clot a few years ago in his leg and it went to his lungs. I was trying to see if this was a blood clot or something else?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Welcome to HCM,

Pain under the rib cage can be due to many reasons. If i were your treating doctor,i would have advised him to undergo a chest x-ray,an ECG,an USG of the abdomen.

As he had a history of blood clot in his legs which went into his lungs, its suggestive of deep vein thrombosis, which is a life threatening medical condition.
Is he on any drugs at present?
Does he have any chronic disease like diabetes, heart disease etc?

I would like to advise you to go and consult with your local physician immediately and get the tests done along with proper clinical examination to rule out any medical emergency.

Hope your query is solved,
Take care
