What Causes Pain Below The Rib Cage?

My boyfriend is having some pain, right below his rib cage. nothing seems to be helping him feel better. it started bothering him early yesterday afternoon. he says it it tender to touch all around his stomach. He has tried taking tums, and earlier this morning he tried pepto, also has tried tyonal.

I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.

Probable diagnosis : Costochondritis
Treatment of choice : Conservative with analgesics,rarely intercostal block.
Outcome : Excellent

The symptoms you have mentioned suggest that you might have a condition called " Costochondritis",It is a common pain condition caused by inflammation of your ribs and connecting cartilage.
Before commencing the treatment we have to rule out some conditions like pleurodynia and fibromyalgia.

Investigation required:
1.ECG to rule out coronary artery disease.
2.Chest X-ray
Treatment is mainly conservative by using analgesics like NSAIDs and gabapentin.If the pain is severe and does not respond to drugs you need oral steroids or injection of a local anesthetic into the area involved.
I suggest you to a general physician for detailed physical evaluation and investigation to make a correct diagnosis.
