What Causes Pain Between The Sternum And Upper Spine?

I have an internal pain that feels like it is between my sternum and upper spine. The pain worsens when I lie down one either left side, right side and on my back. Also when I cough or bend and twist my body. I said that it feels internal because if I press on my chest or back, there is no pain.
