I have been having pain and discomfort in my right shoulder for a couple months. Today I am also experiencing pain in my middle upper back. It hurts to move certain ways and to take a deep breath. It feels like I am being squeezed around my rib area....

In my opinion, the problem is due to pressure on one of the nerves in the neck. Start painkillers, muscle relaxants, physiotherapy and get X-rays of the neck if pain persists after 10 days.
