What Causes Pain During Intercourse While Experiencing Menopause?
Hi I have been to the Doctor as I am unable to have intercourse it was also impossible for me to get my smear test done due to the pain it was causing me, I have been referred to the hospital I am 57 years old. I am now getting quite worried about this could it be due to the menopause
Hello, Welcome to HCM. First of all thank you for sharing your concern with us . Pain during intercourse is mainly seen due to the vaginal dryness and thinning of vagina which is commonly seen in menopausal women due to hormonal changes. There are vaginal lubricants available in market which you can try first , if it does not provide relief in pain during intercourse then other causes should be ruled out by consulting your gynecologist . Other conditions which can cause similar pain are : vestibulodynia , vulvodynia , prolapsed uterus , perineal muscle dysfunction and sometimes UTI are the cause of pain during intercourse . It has been seen that most of the women don't discuss about such pains with their healthcare providers which is quite unfortunate , as most of such pains can easily be treated . I wish you good health . Best Regards, Dr.S.Tomar
